App Presentation
Key Feature 1: Foot Section Analysis
I designed four divided foot parts based on four main painpoints that may appear.
It helps the users to know better about their own feet and painpoints after viewing the visual model. It also assists the shoes industries to fix their shoes design according to users’ painpoints.

Step 1: Scan Foot Shape
Match 4 crosses’ position and scan the foot shape are what the users will do for this step.

Step 2: Adjust Foot Shape
After the basic model shown, users can draw and adjust the foot shape using brush and moving tools. Then, they will get the result right after.

Key Feature 2: Visualizing Painpoints
By using stimulating function, the model will show the possible painpoints appearing for specific shoes.

Key Feature 3: Evaluating User Feedback
After the users get their shoes, they can share the thoughts and feedbacks. And the system will use the collected data adjust the design.

Background
4 major problems people may face while they are buying shoes

1. Not familiar with the size of feet
Most people may not know their accurate feet sizes. They might wear the unsuitable shoes for the whole life and think those are their right shoes because they only buy shoes based on shoe sizes but not detailed stats.
2. Various foot shape
People have different foot statistics and foot shapes. For example, the width of foot has multiple categories including A,B,C,D, narrow, medium, and wide.

3. Same size shoes are not “same”
Shoes from different brands may shoe the same shoe size, but they are not the same or even close to that. While online shopping or trying shoes in stores, that makes people really confusing and it is time-costing
4. Painpoints are hard to explain

As people communicating about the shoes, it is hard for others to easily get where the painpoints are and talk about rubbing.

Specific statistics about feet and shoes problem
College of Podiatry surveyed 2000 individuals about what do they think about current shoes problems and their thoughts or concerns.

20% of people are worried
about improperly fitting shoes
can actually have a number
of negative health effects
10% of people are trying
to figure out more details
about their feet and shoe
sizes
35% of people describe
that the shoes they bought
are uncomfortable to wear
nearly half of women (45%)
admitted to purchasing shoes
that didn't exactly fit
Market Analysis

Concept Evaluation

Users send the feet model back

Users make their own feet model and measure

Provide a box filled in with soft material, the customers should put both of their feetin the box and wait until it gets dry. Then, send back to us the feet model.
Provide the same box to the customers. We can send plaster to them and they are welcome to do the steps by themselves. Dry the material using a hairdryer.

Scanning App
Send cheap shoe model to users
Scan the feet. Make a virtual feet model and stimulate the painpoints. Estimate the best shoe sizes for users.
Industries send the desired shoe models to customers and suggest they wear those models for a long time to see if there are any pain points appearing.

Future Developments
Adapt more platforms

The currently published platform of this app only fits or adapts to smartphones. In the future, I suggest designing and publishing it on other platforms so that users can use tablets (such as iPad) for a more detailed visual display of the scanned feet model. I am also planning to publish it on smartwatches (such as the apple watch) to make users a more convenient experience.

Visual Identity

Now, the scanning function was made by locating the whole foot which may not be that accurate to test the result. In the future, I try to locate users’ first toe, last toe, and heel. Any more solutions will be designed, too.
Business model

In the future development of the app, I think it is a good idea to share the feet test data with shoes industries with users’ permissions. In that way, the industries or companies may have a chance studing the usual painpoints users’ have and design new shoes or fix old shoes. And I can also have more users to scan their feet. That is a win-win condition.
